I own a Poulan electric pole saw, essentially a compact electric chainsaw mounted on an extendable pole. This device reaches an extension of roughly 15 feet and performs adequately.

However, there are certain challenges. Firstly, leverage becomes an issue as it tends to feel quite heavy when fully extended. The longer the pole, the more difficult it becomes to make precise cuts. It handles smaller branches well, but for limbs with a diameter of 3" or 4" or more, the chain bar has a tendency to get pinched, which can quickly lead to complications. Additionally, the saw lacks an automatic oiler; therefore, after making one or two cuts, it's necessary to manually oil the chain system. This requires lowering the saw and being careful to avoid dirt on the chain while you press the oiler.

In terms of power, you'll either need a portable generator or a lengthy electric cord, depending on the worksite’s location.

I purchased this pole trimmer with the expectation of utilizing it to reach into cedar trees for clearing lower branches and accessing the trunk more easily. Unfortunately, it did not operate as I planned.

Nonetheless, I have successfully used it to trim branches from the trees surrounding my home. While it's infrequent usage, it does come in handy. For heavier tasks or if climbing the tree is feasible, I rely on an electric chainsaw, which is significantly lighter than my other conventional chainsaws I use on the farm.
