The guy that has done drywall work for me in the past always uses paper tape. He has done drywall for years. He claims the paper is stronger than the fiberglass tape because it is more solid. He also claims that with the paper you will have less corner cracks and seam cracks because once it is set, it does not flex as much as fiberglass tape. The fiberglass can give in different directions. But then he also told me that the fiberglass was more or less made for the DIY'er that had trouble using the paper tape properly. So they came out with the lazy way of putting the tape all on before hand and it sticking to the wall. I can see that as I have used the fiberglass tape. The paper tape is more time consuming.

Taping and mudding is the process that joins pieces of drywall into a single solid wall. Drywall tape and coats of drywall compound are applied to reinforce joints and conceal screws and nails. When taping and mudding are done correctly, the wall is flat and smooth and the seams underneath are hard to see.
