How Long Has Your 2stroke Lasted? - Motorized Bicycle
My earliest motor was acquired a decade ago and is currently affixed to a Diamondback Della Cruz. While I initially enjoyed riding this cruiser, I eventually sought new adventures and invested in a HardRock MTB. Since making that purchase, my rides on the Della Cruz have dwindled, becoming more of a sporadic jaunt than a frequent outing.
To date, that motor has logged approximately 30,000 miles. Although it experiences a slight blow-by, its performance remains robust. Additionally, I've utilized a 48cc starfire motor that I obtained in the same year as the Della Cruz, which was initially fitted to a Huffy cruiser before making its way onto a Specialized Rock Hopper. Unfortunately, I didn't maintain a detailed record of the mileage accrued on that motor.
Recently, I decided to pass that bike and motor on to a good friend who resides in Mexico, as he required a more reliable means of transportation for employment purposes. My current collection includes a 66cc starfire motor, still in excellent working order on my Hardrock, which I purchased second-hand at the same time as my bike. Coupled with my other motor, I now have two reliable motors in my possession.
Over the past decade, I have operated only three motors, and remarkably, they are all still functional. Apart from a minor base gasket replacement and addressing three magneto failures on my other motor, I have not performed any significant maintenance. When I acquired my 66cc starfire on Craigslist for just $20, the seller claimed it was beyond repair. However, it has proven to be remarkably resilient and continues to function well to this day.
With the 48cc motor now gone, I am left with two motors that I plan to keep running for another decade.
