We don't have mains gas and so we are probably going to go for an air source heat pump in our new house. I have read loads about them but I still can't get my head round one question.
The house will have under floor heating (UFH) which will need water at, I guess, about 35-40 C. At this temperature, the ASHP should be fairly efficient. We also want the ASHP to do the hot water. The ASHP can produce hot water at about 55-60 C, but obviously at a much lower COP (but still better than the immersion heater).
The question is, are ASHP systems installed so that the ASHP switches between different output temperatures according to what the output is being used for or are you limited to a single output temperature? I was looking at a Viessmann diagram that shows an ASHP being used with a separate DHW cylinder and separate calorifier for the UFH (to keep the ASHP working at maximum efficiency). It seemed to imply that the 3 way switch would tell the ASHP what temperature to produce but I'm not sure if I understood it correctly. Does this sound normal?
Thanks very much.
